The year is 1945 and Vito Scaletta is returning home for a brief time after being shot in the army, until his good friend Joe pulls some strings and gets him out of the army. But now you got yourself into the mafia and have to rise quickly through the ranks.
The gameplay is easy to learn and the buttons are pretty basic. The whole game is third person, including walking, running, driving, shooting, etc. Driving is also pretty easy but be careful reckless driving can cause the police to follow you, shoot you, or fine you, but you can get out of any crime by changing you outfit, bribe police, or fixing or getting a new car. Shooting and aiming is easy, even though there is no aim bot.
The graphics of the game are really good for an older game including outfits, cars, weapons, and background. Voice-overs were really good and the characters look matched their voice perfectly.
The makers did a great job of making you feel like you're in the 1950's. The cars are a good example and even change between the time of the 1940's to the 1950's including the radio has alot of old songs from the 1930's - 1950's. Cars can also be edited by using paint, tires, tuning, and license plate But outfits, building's, cars, song's and especially weapons are all the little things that make the game so much more realistic. And if you're low on money you rob a gun shop or clothing shop/tailor etc.
Although pretty much the whole game was really enjoyable there were a few things I disliked. The whole game was one continuing mission, you get a job, you go home, you sleep, wake up go do another mission. But the missions didn't have to be done immediatley so as long as you're running to the mission you can stop and get something to eat. Another thing I did not enjoy is a few noticable glitches, mostly these glitches happen when you crash a car, but it's nothing major. But the last thing is once you beat the game you can't just freeroam, you have to back to the last checkpoint saved before you finished te game.
There is no multiplayer but in some of the downloads including Joe's Adventure's, The Betrayal of Jimmy, and Jimmy's Vendetta all have an online leader board for when a mission is complete to see who has the highest score. But they’re only available for PS3. There are other downloads for outfits or cars.
Also make sure to be on the lookout for old Playboys and wanted posters. Because once you beat the game you can't go back to find them.
Overall the game was pretty good, and you definetly don't need to buy the first game. They first and second are not connected in any way except for title. But overall I rate this game a 5 out of 5.
